When stocking up...

Lately everyone has been saying that it's time to restock and pack some extra away. We too have gotten a little sloppy down here on the reservation with our supplies. We all know that we need food, candles, and med supplies; just don't forget a little something to barter with. I have a buddy that is always trading work for a 12-pack of beer. I don't work that cheaply, but there are always those that will. Something that I will be doing soon is buying a case or two of cheap whisky in pint bottles. Now I drink once in a while, but not that much. I'm not that "Hillbilly"; but it will make excellent stock in trade. There are many uses for a little medicinal quality liquor and there will be many folks that will be happy to take it in trade when it all goes down. Everyone feels a little Irish now and then. So..besides the usual beans, bullets and band-aids, don't forget some stuff to barter cause I promise there is going to be that one item that you forgot to stock up on. Just my two pennies. Y'all have a good 'un.

  1. Good idea, I also think 22 ammo would be a good barter item as well, buy bulk boxes and re-package them in lots of 50-100.

  2. I agree with Duke, but most times we do...hope your still is in better shape than the one in the picture. Don't get me wrong, I still think a bottle or two of whiskey is worth stocking.

  3. I've been stocking up on 22 ammo just for bartering purposes, hadn't thought about the alcohol. If nothing else have a bottle of PGA might be good for sterilizing water that you're not sure about.

  4. I went up to North Carolina to the state run ABC store and bought whiskey and rum. I don't drink them myself, not to my taste, but I believe they will be good for trade.

  5. I'm a big fan of loading up on 22 also, fellers. I also think coffee, gas cans, lighters, batteries, and tobacco. All good stuff, especially the smaller stuff. Easy to pack away. See you next time.

  6. Good point about bartering. Don't forget it's not just tangible items that you can barter with, but your skills as well. Do you have equipment that you can use to help others out like a tractor or backhoe? Do you have a welder, drill press, air compressor and power tools? I am good in the kitchen and can sew if I have to. Do you have carpentry skills? I think that our skills are good bartering tools, too.

  7. Great point, Rose. I guess I can't rent out my good looks and boyish charm...

  8. Stock up on TP also. Get some extra rolling papers for smoking. How about some black smithing tools, if you know how to do that kind of thing. Also, if you know how to butcher animals. You could do some trading with that. Lots of things and ways to barter. As for liquor, I would have to sample it every now and then. To make sure it is still good.

Any body like to have some Thunder Bird wine?
